Care Tips for Different Types of Glassware

Care Instructions for Our Different Types of Glass and Coatings

HOW DO I CLEAN MY GLASS?

The care recommendations for glasses are as varied and individual as the areas of application of our products. Depending on the composition, printing and coating, there are various instructions that you should follow when cleaning. To give you an overview, we provide you with the care tips for glass on this page.

HOW DO I CLEAN HARD-COATED GLASS?

Stubborn stains can be carefully dabbed off with a clean, lint-free cloth moistened with ethanol. Excessive pressure and wiping should be avoided.
After tempering, hard-coated glass that is installed with the coating facing outwards can be cleaned with a soft cloth and commercially available glass cleaner or a mild, non-abrasive cleaning agent and plenty of water. Soften solid and abrasive residues with water beforehand and remove carefully. Check any rubber squeegees regularly and replace them early if necessary to prevent scratches. Rubber lips must always be soft and undamaged.

Care tips for hard-coated glass:

  • Clean the glass surface with a clean cloth moistened with ethanol.
  • Dab carefully over the surface and avoid excessive pressure and wiping.

HOW DO I CLEAN TEMPERED GLASS SUCH AS ESG, ESG-H AND TVG?

With toughened glass, it should be noted that the surface is softer and therefore much more sensitive due to the hardening process compared to non-tempered glass. Surface damage, such as scratches, is the result if cleaning is not carried out properly.

Care tips for toughened glasses:

  • Clean all surfaces regularly. The older the dirt, the more difficult it is to remove.
  • Use a soft, damp sponge or cloth for all surfaces.
  • Dab carefully over the surface and avoid excessive pressure and wiping.
  • Only use neutral detergents or water.
  • Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents, cleaners containing extreme amounts of alkali, chlorine or bleach, vinegar cleaners and under no circumstances cleaners with abrasives.
  • Do not use razor blades, ceramic hob scrapers, steel wool, abrasive scouring pads, scouring milk or powder or similar.

HOW DO I CLEAN FROSTED GLASS?

Glass that has been frosted by etching or sandblasting must not be cleaned with silicone or acidic cleaning agents. Chemicals or highly corrosive deposits must be removed immediately with plenty of water, as they can attack the glass surface. On frosted surfaces, greasy and oily substances (e.g. sweat) leave stains with a slight shadow effect, which cannot always be completely removed with glass cleaner. In addition to glass cleaner, water with the addition of spirit can also be used as an alternative. Depending on the intensity of the stain, heavy or long-term stains can be removed with a commercially available light-colored pumice sponge. It is important to ensure that the surface is only treated with light pressure and as much of it as possible. Excessive pressure or prolonged localized scrubbing should be avoided, otherwise shiny or bare spots will appear. Remove any residue from the pumice sponge with water and a soft microfiber or cotton cloth.

Care tips for frosted glass:

  • Use a glass cleaner or water with spirit added for cleaning.
  • Heavy soiling can be removed with a light-colored pumice sponge and light pressure over a large area. Avoid excessive pressure or prolonged localized scrubbing.
  • Remove any residue from the pumice sponge with water and a soft cloth.
  • Do not use cleaning agents containing silicone or acid.
  • Remove chemical or highly corrosive deposits immediately with plenty of water.
  • Avoid soiling with oils, greases, silicones and other highly viscous substances, as these are difficult or impossible to remove without leaving residues.

HOW DO I CLEAN GLASS WITH CERAMIC DIGITAL OR SCREEN PRINTING?

The main advantage of glass printed with ceramic ink is its high light resistance, adhesion and durability. After firing onto the glass, the print is largely scratch-resistant and resistant to chemical influences. In addition to partial printing (e.g. stripes or dots) to reduce sensitivity to dirt, we recommend the use of special inks developed and approved by us or the combination with laminated safety glass and ceramic printing for bonding.

Environmental conditions, as well as the location and position of the installation situation, have a significant influence on the weather resistance of the glass. Depending on air pollution from aggressive substances and dust exposure, glass and ceramic surfaces can become unsightly within a few months. The intensity of cleaning required depends on the degree of soiling.

Care tips for glass with ceramic printing:

  • Clean all surfaces regularly. The older the soiling, the more difficult it is to remove.
  • Use a soft sponge, chamois leather or a glass wiper for all surfaces.
  • Clean with little pressure and over a large area with a damp cloth.
  • Do not use aggressive cleaning agents, vinegar essence or cleaning agents with abrasives. Household cleaners must be suitable for ceramic surfaces.
  • Organic soiling can be removed with ethanol, acetone or isopropanol.
  • With the exception of translucent screen printing, particularly stubborn stains can be removed with ceramic hob cleaner. To avoid damaging the surface, only rub with low pressure over as large an area as possible in several passes. If possible, test compatibility and suitability on a less visible area first.
  • Avoid soiling with oils, greases, silicones and other highly viscous substances, as these are difficult or impossible to remove without leaving a residue
  • Do not use razor blades, ceramic hob scrapers, steel wool, abrasive scouring pads, scouring milk or scouring powder.

HOW DO I CLEAN GLASSES WITH UV PRINTING OR LACQUERING?

Painted and UV-printed glass may generally only be cleaned with a soft, clean cloth or sponge slightly damp. We recommend using only neutral cleaning agents. Stagnant moisture or permanent moistening of the surface should be avoided in order to prevent (localized) detachment.

Care tips for glasses with UV printing or lacquering:

  • Clean all surfaces regularly. The older the soiling, the more difficult it is to remove.
  • Use a soft, damp sponge or cloth for all surfaces.
  • Clean with little pressure and over a large area.
  • Only use neutral cleaning agents or water.
  • Do not use aggressive cleaning agents, vinegar essence or cleaning agents with abrasives.
  • Avoid stagnant moisture and permanently damp surfaces.
  • Avoid soiling with oils, greases, silicones and other highly viscous substances, as these are difficult or impossible to remove without leaving residues
  • Do not use razor blades, ceramic hob scrapers, steel wool, abrasive scouring pads, scouring milk or scouring powder.

HOW DO I CLEAN GLASSES WITH THE SPRICLEAN OR SPRIMEDICAL FUNCTIONAL COATING?

SpriClean and SpriMedical are special coatings for glass in showers or areas with special hygiene requirements, which make sanitary cleaning considerably easier and significantly reduce maintenance. The surface should be wiped regularly, preferably after each use, with a soft cloth. Heavy soiling can be removed with a mild commercial cleaner (e.g. neutral or maximum four percent vinegar cleaner) and a soft cloth or sponge.

Care tips for glasses with SpriClean or SpriMedical coating:

  • Clean all surfaces regularly. The older the stains are, the more difficult they are to remove.
  • Use a soft, damp sponge or cloth for all surfaces.
  • Clean with little pressure and over a large area.
  • Only use neutral cleaning agents or water.

FAQS FOR GLASS CLEANING

The more often they are cleaned, the less effort you have to put into maintenance. Therefore, clean your glasses at regular intervals.

To avoid limescale deposits, it is advisable to use distilled water if you live in an area where the water is very calcareous. Any limescale stains that do occur can be removed by using a light vinegar and water mixture and then wiping the window thoroughly dry. However, do not use paper towels for this, as the fibers will settle on the pane and form clouds.

Dust particles on the glass can scratch the surface if too much pressure is applied when wiping. Therefore, clean your glasses with a soft, damp cloth to prevent this.

Sprinz glass is very easy to clean, which is why mild cleaning agents are sufficient. Clear water or a few drops of washing-up liquid are often sufficient.

Never use scouring agents, steel wool, cleaning agents with abrasive additives or agents containing acetic or citric acid or other chemicals of any kind, as they will damage the surfaces.

Please also pay attention to the special care instructions for the different types of glass described on this page.
