General care tips for the shower
Regular cleaning of the shower cubicle is necessary to ensure that limescale, soap residue and other soiling have no chance in the shower. Before using your shower for the first time, please ensure that you do not open or close the doors for the first 24 hours. The silicone needs this time to dry completely. For this reason, you should not carry out any cleaning during this time.
Cleaning glass showers
At SPRINZ, we recommend cleaning the walls with a rubber squeegee after every shower and then wiping the glass and fittings dry with a soft cloth. If the glass does become heavily soiled, it is sufficient to clean it with a mild detergent. We advise against using abrasive cleaners and sponges to avoid scratching the glass. Also do not use scouring milk and scouring powder, cleaners containing extreme amounts of alkali, chlorine or bleach, vinegar essence, concentrated drain cleaners on seals and glass walls, steel wool or steel cleaners, mechanical cleaning agents, pointed or sharp objects such as ceramic hob scrapers or spatulas and abrasive scouring pads.
Removing limescale
Heavy limescale stains can be removed with a diluted vinegar mixture. However, make sure that fittings with special coatings and rubber seals do not come into contact with the acidic agent. This can lead to flaking and damaged seals.
Avoid mold
To prevent mold, make sure the bathroom is sufficiently ventilated.
The most important care tips summarized:
- Do not open or close doors for the first 24 hours after installation. Do not clean!
- Remove the shower panels after each use.
- Clean the shower cubicle regularly. The older the dirt, the more difficult it is to remove.
- Only clean with mild cleaning agents and follow the instructions for use.
- Avoid abrasive or sharp mechanical cleaning agents or extremely aggressive cleaning agents.
- Use soft and non-abrasive cloths
- Remove limescale with a maximum of four percent vinegar cleaner.
Caution: Do not use this to clean fittings and special surfaces! - Ensure adequate ventilation in the bathroom.
FAQs on shower cleaning
To ensure that the shower shines for a long time and the glass does not become cloudy, we recommend cleaning the shower enclosure after each use. All you need to do is wipe the glass with a shower squeegee. Any remaining drops are then wiped off with a soft cloth.
Basic cleaning with mild cleaning agents is then only necessary once a week.
As our products are particularly easy to care for, mild cleaning agents are sufficient. The milder, the better! Many supermarket products are aggressive and contain chemicals that damage surfaces in the long term. With regular care, even tried and tested household products are sufficient and are also a more environmentally friendly alternative.
Never use scouring milk and scouring powder, cleaners containing extreme amounts of alkali, chlorine or bleach, vinegar essence, concentrated drain cleaners, steel wool and steel cleaners, mechanical cleaning aids, pointed or sharp objects (ceramic hob scrapers or spatulas) and abrasive scouring pads.
For long-term care of the shower, we recommend our SoftCleaner® and the SoftClean Plus® care set.
Microfiber cloths are made of polyester, which has an increased degree of hardness. For this reason, they are not suitable for certain surfaces, as the smallest scratches can occur over time when cleaning. Therefore, when using a microfiber cloth, make sure that it is declared as suitable for glass by the manufacturer.
When cleaning, it is important that the cloth is free of dirt particles and dust. Clean the glass with a damp cloth and little pressure.
The lotus effect ensures that water rolls off the shower walls more easily. This prevents soap residue. This means that the shower needs to be cleaned even less often.
To achieve the lotus effect, Sprinz has developed the SpriClean® surface finish. This uses the properties of the lotus plant. This keeps the glass pane clean for longer.
If drops of water remain on the glass or wall after showering, they can leave unsightly limescale stains. You should therefore clean the shower with clean water and a soft cloth after each use. Use a shower wiper and then wipe the surfaces dry.
If limescale residue does occur, remove it with a maximum of four percent vinegar cleaner. However, rubber joints and fittings with special coatings should be avoided in order to protect the sensitive surfaces.
To clean glass surfaces, use either fresh cloths or cloths that are free of soap residue. Do not wash your cleaning cloths with fabric softener and rinse them with plenty of clean water after washing. This is the only way to completely remove detergents. To remove streaks from the glass, the glass surface can then be rubbed dry with a leather cloth.
Mold is a dreaded evil in the bathroom. It often forms in hard-to-reach corners and on silicone joints. The cause is moisture and heat. To prevent mold, the shower should be dried with a cloth after each use. Regular ventilation also ensures air circulation and reduces moisture. Therefore, air the bathroom thoroughly after every shower.
The optional SpriMedical® surface finish ensures additional hygiene in the bathroom.
If mildew stains do form, they can be removed with high-proof alcohol. This is applied to the affected areas and then wiped off with a cloth after leaving for around half an hour. Although vinegar is also effective against mold, it can attack the silicone. If the mold has already spread considerably, it is often only possible to replace the silicone joint.
All SPRINZ shower enclosures and shower walls meet the highest technical requirements in accordance with DIN EN 14428 for splash water tightness.
For the standardized tightness test, the leakage of small amounts of water into the outside area of the shower, i.e. a few drops, is permissible. Depending on the profile geometry, shape of the shower tray, glass construction, installation situation and number and type of sealing profiles, more or less water will escape from the shower area. No shower is therefore 100% splash-proof! In principle, framed and partially framed showers have a higher level of splash water protection than frameless showers. To counteract this, SPRINZ also offers frameless showers with pendulum fittings and a raise/lower mechanism. When cleaning your showers, we also recommend always rinsing the glass from top to bottom and fitting existing profile strips during installation or not removing them afterwards.
Blocked drains are caused by a mixture of soap residue, hair and dirt getting stuck in the pipe. To prevent this, a small strainer should be used and cleaned regularly.
If the drain is clogged anyway, you don't have to resort to chemicals straight away. A tried and tested household remedy will do the trick: Soda and vinegar. Five tablespoons of soda and a small cup of vinegar will clear the drain. Mix the two in the drain pipe and leave to work for a few minutes. Then rinse with hot water.
